Jean Michel Basquiat’s 1982 painting Untitled (ELMAR) sold for $46.5 million last May at Phillips auction house. The artist, who died at age 27 in 1988, has become one of the most collectible painters of our time. And now fans of both fancy champagne and Basquiat can get in on the action with the release of Dom Pérignon’s special-edition Vintage 2015 featuring artwork inspired by Basquiat’s iconic 1983 painting In Italian. The complexity of Basquiat’s masterpiece is reflected in the design of three coffrets, each depicting a different section of In Italian. When put together, the three coffrets reveal the entire painting. Each bottle inside features a hybrid emblem – a combination of Dom Pérignon’s famous shield and Basquiat’s three-branched crown, a motif the artist used extensively.
