ART STAR Gridlock At The Grill For ARTWALK NY

“New York holds beauty and heartbreak side by side and somehow, we have come together with art and with heart to help others.” – Michelle Hellman

ARTWALK NY’s annual gala supports the work of the Coalition for the Homeless. At the GRILL in the Seagram Building, author Sarah Hoover chats with Casey Fremont Crowe. I spot artists Zoe Buckman, Nick Moss and Mickalene Thomas and actor Jason Biggs with Jenny Mollen. But the real stars of the night: nearly 100 highly collectible plates, all up for a silent auction (and bidding battles). Painted on fine bone china, the plates are by Cecily Brown, Hank Willis Thomas, Jenny Holzer, KAWS and Urs Fischer, to name just a few.

The Artist Plate Project has raised $8 million, directly helping thousands of homeless New Yorkers. Rashid Johnson gives his wife, artist and activist Sheree Hovsepian an award for her ongoing activism and philanthropy. “Art is not only about beauty, but also about empathy and action,” Hovsepian says, accepting her honor. – ALEXANDER HANKIN
