“The dinner at a private estate on the East End breaks away from the tradition of Hamptons white parties. There isn’t a pastel hued frock in the crowd.”

Invite me for a “Night of Forbidden Magic” with a high-end Goth dress code and you can bet I am going to go all out. Admittedly most of my wardrobe falls into this category, but for the occasion I bring out my darkest attire (mostly Chrome Hearts) and even paint my nails black. Social Life Editor-in-Chief Devorah Rose and author Leigh Bardugo cohost the dinner at a private estate on the East End and break away from the tradition of Hamptons white parties. There isn’t a pastel hued frock in the crowd. Guests like “White Lotus” star Alexandra Daddario, Kathryn Gallagher, Zibby Owens and Elena Matei mingle under the starry night in all-black attire.
As for the “forbidden magic” – mentalist Kevin Nicholas wows with a mind-bending performance. I’m still wondering how Nicholas got a deck of cards out of my hand and replaced it with a plastic rectangle. Or how he knew what contact he landed on in Daniel Goldstein’s iPhone.
Cohost and author Leigh Bardugo’s speech resonates deeply with me. Her journey to success has been grueling, disciplined, and transformative. She speaks about supporting creativity and how social media has made things too easy. Creatives aren’t given the support they need, she reasons, explaining that creativity comes when we are most uncomfortable. “It’s not an un-welcomed visitor, but an invited guest,” she says and everyone claps with approval. – ALEXANDER HANKIN
