ALEXANDER HANKIN reports from the Spring Benefit

When Bronson van Wyck invites me to the 2025 Spring Benefit at the High Line, I show up in a Fendi suit, ready for a fabulous evening. The Starrett-Lehigh Building sets the perfect backdrop. Over 500 High Line supporters come together for this incredible park that relies entirely on fundraising. I see Chelsea Clinton, Seth Meyers, artist Amy Sherald (who has a must-see show “American Sublime” at The Whitney Museum now), the pop star Miguel with Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and NBC Universal’s Cesar Conde.

Event designer van Wyck draws inspiration from the High Line’s own overgrown, lush landscape for the design of the benefit. The after-party? A vibrant celebration of Darren Walker’s love for art and disco, transforming the space into a colorful oasis. The night honors Walker, President of the Ford Foundation, who is deeply dedicated to public space and the arts. As a member of the High Line’s Board of Directors since 2008, I see how Walker’s work strengthens the park and its mission. After a speech, Walker declares, “Now Everyone Dance!” And the crowd listens, throwing their arms in the air.
