Ready (Jet) Set Go: Zachary Weiss for George Cleverley

Global Gadfly Zachary Weiss’ Capsule Collection for George Cleverley is here

Writer (and Avenue contributor) Zachary Weiss is truly a man-about-the globe, jetting from his home in New York to stylish spots from Paris to Doha to Botswana, where he just returned from safari. Weiss’ exotic travels and sartorial savvy (he favors fancy bathrobes as dinner attire, dramatic capes and dapper double-breasted suits) is on full display daily for his 56,000+ Instagram followers. Now fans can nab Weiss’ enviable style with his capsule collection for George Cleverley, the British bespoke leather goods maker that has kitted everyone from Sir Winston Churchill to David Beckham. The first collaboration of its kind in the brand’s storied 66-year history, Weiss dreamed up travel essentials that every international jet-setter should own: a grocery tote in black and brown crocodile-effect leather, a wine and spirits case in shades of bottle green and a sleep mask in recycled ostrich, lizard and calf skin. A black tie party staple, sleep masks are a must for Weiss.

“George Glasgow, the CEO George Cleverley, and I were having drinks at The Guards Bar at the Raffles Hotel in London,” Weiss tells Avenue. “His team had just finished making another pair of great shoes for some cool guy like Chris Pine and we were wondering what he could do with some of the leftover materials. I wound up telling him about the accidentally large collection of eye masks I had amassed over the years. I had lots of them, but none of them really felt memorable or particularly luxurious, even from the nicest hotels.”

Cleverley’s expert craftsman brought Weiss’ eye masks to life in their workshop, using unexpectedly luxe materials. But Weiss x Cleverley didn’t stop there. “We thought about other stuff you use often that could use an upgrade. I thought about lugging my laptop or groceries around the city. I could use a croc-effect tote for that instead of a canvas tote, and when I’m bringing a bottle of wine or spirits to a friend’s place, I’d rather put it in a beautiful case instead of a brown bag.”
