ALEXANDER HANKIN speaks to NICK HISSOM about his new single So Cool Babe – and the controversial video he just shot in L.A.
One of my best friends of 20 years – the art dealer, singer and Steve Wynn’s stepson Nick Hissom – is celebrating the release of his single (and steamy threesome-charged video) So Cool Babe at The Box, the boundary-pushing boîte downtown. “Being here now, performing and sharing my music with this incredible community, feels like a milestone,” Nick tells me.
“I’m being myself now. I’m extremely passionate. It’s been heartbreaking, scary, and shocking— but that’s what it takes to make great art.” -Nick Hissom
Though some have recently tried to tear him down (you can read about Nick’s Instagram-public breakup with his fiancé Kameron Ramirez in Page Six), Nick rises above the haters. Tonight, Nick is glowing with pride—working through the pressures of the music industry, braving heartbreak, fear, and uncertainty. “I’m being myself now,” he says. “I’m working hard. I’m extremely passionate. It’s been heartbreaking, scary, and shocking— but that’s what it takes to make great art.”

So Cool Babe is timed to become a summer anthem. “The most exciting thing is the organic response to the song. It’s hard for a DJ to mix in a bubblegum pop song in the middle of an intense set at 4 a.m. and make it feel sexy— but it came on naturally, all three minutes of it, without remixing, and it smashed!” In the crowd: actress Wallis Day, YouTube sensation Alexa Losey and models Austin Casey and Wade Williams. “Nick’s return to music is a journey rooted in self-expression, aiming to inspire others to feel at home in their own skin,” The Box’s Andres Garzon tells me.
And that instantly infamous music video—Nick loved every second of it. “The whole night was an organic and fun pool party with a genuine vibe,” he says. The models in the video include OnlyFans performer Reno Gold, pornstar Hazel Hoffman, Austin Casey and Jakob Jokerst.
Nick wants people to know that he’s embracing everything right now—without apology. “I want people to know I’m being myself,” he declares. “I’ve had to be brave to relaunch my music career. It’s been a wild ride, but I hope my fans support me. I want them to feel inspired to celebrate themselves unapologetically, the way I’m trying to do now. Keep it So Cool Babe—everything’s going to be fine.”
