BEAUTY FIX: How To Get Those UES Eyes

“Women are swapping “Mommy Makeovers” for “Post-Breakup Eye Refreshes” because nothing says “I’m over him” like eyes wide open.”

An Example of Dr. Ira Savetsky’s work

BY MICAELA ENGLISH

New York is having a newfound awakening. No, it’s not the Eckhart Tolle’s inner peace teachings or a four-day retreat to The Ranch kind. I’m talking about a physical awakening of the ocular area, what I call “Upper East Eyes.” Women are swapping “Mommy Makeovers” for “Post-Breakup Eye Refreshes” because nothing says “I’m over him” like eyes wide open.

My initiation into the eye-naissance happened on Madison Avenue, at a party where the hors d’oeuvres were ignored, and treatment tips were the real snack. The conversation has shifted from GLP-1s and longevity stacks to the latest obsession: “eye tweakments.”

As I made my exit, I caught a snippet of one such conversation, “You look amazing,” a Gabriella Hearst clad woman told a friend. Her reply, “I had an upper bleph, looks like I slept for two years, even though I have two toddlers. Text me for details!”

We’re living in an age of obsessive transparency about beauty fixes, and while Nora Ephron notoriously felt bad about her neck, often, the eyes are the first place where the aging betrayal begins. Dr. Anetta Reszko, who’s been seeing more patients in their 30s and 40s with concerns about their eyes, tells me“The eyes reveal a lot, whether someone looks tired, stressed, or older than they feel. Since the skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate, changes like discoloration, fine lines, and laxity tend to appear much earlier”

And for every eye concern, there are both low-maintenance and high-maintenance options available.

If you peek inside the bag of an UES mom, you might find individually wrapped prescription drops, designed to plump the pupils before she hits the Spence drop-off. Add the drops to a laundry list of options designed for the peepers: scalpels, lasers, ultrasound, punctilious placements of Botox and nano-fat, and at-home maintenance tools.

This eye awakening isn’t only an NYC phenomenon, Park Avenue’s king of surgical “Quiet Luxury,” Dr. Ira Savetsky says, “This trend is global. In 2024, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) became the most performed cosmetic surgical procedure worldwide, surpassing liposuction and breast augmentation.”

From heavy-duty lasers to at-home devices to surgery that requires no anesthesia, here’s the 411 on how to get Upper East Side Eyes.

The Non-Surgical Browbone Lift: Sofwave. The Doctor: Dr. Jessica Weiser Who’s It For: Mild-to-moderate laxity of the brow and upper eyelid

For the patient not quite ready to commit to upper blepharoplasty surgery but still looking for results, this is for you. On Spring Street, Dr. Jessica Weiser is seeing patients as young as 20s and 30s. Her solution: Sofwave. I’ve tried Sofwave, and it really does work on a temporary lift as seen attached.

“Sofwave is specifically intended for lifting of the brow, which, in turn, can help to support skin laxity or heaviness of the upper eyelids,” Dr. Weiser explains. The technology works by introducing ultrasound energy into the skin just below the eyebrow and on the forehead, specifically targeting the dermis to stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This ultrasound heat is deposited in parallel bands into the dermis, resulting in added skin lift and a firming and plumping of the treatment area.

Weiser says you’ll usually notice results around the three-month mark, and they can last up to a year, sometimes longer. “Some patients desire further improvement, and I will retreat at the three-month mark for further lift and tautness,” Dr. Weiser says. “In a few of my younger patients with brow asymmetry, I have had a couple cases where the treated brow never returns to the lower position.”

For those looking for the absolute maximum effect, combining treatments is key to a refreshed eye.“I’ll use either lower energy non-ablative and more intensive ablative resurfacing of the eyelids in conjunction,” she explains. “By inserting metal intraocular shields for safety, I can resurface the actual eyelid skin above and below the eye all the way to the eyelid margin, which can smooth and firm this delicate skin surface, creating synergistic results with Sofwave lifting.”

“Patients come in because their face is youthful, but their eyes are telling a different story.”

Under Eye Bags? No problem. The Doctor: Dr. Ira Savetsky  Who’s It For: Under-Eye Bags, Hollowing

While Dr. Ira Savetsky is an open secret with celebrities of a certain age, his waiting room is increasingly brimming with a younger crowd, social media-savvy-30-and-40-somethings tired of looking, well, tired. “Patients come in because their face is youthful, but their eyes are telling a different story with under-eye bags and hollowing,” Dr. Savetsky says.

Often, those stubborn shadows are genetic, occurring between the lower lid and cheek. For these cases, Dr. Savetsky advises a lower blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure that nixes puffiness and excess skin via nearly invisible incisions internally or along the lower lash line. But it’s not that cut and dry (eye). Dr. Savetsky complements the surgery with a spritz of micro fat for gentle volumization, then tops it off with nano-fat, a fractionated facial fat transfer that’s more about regeneration than filling a hole. Unlike traditional, bulkier fat transfers or the fillers that younger generations are veering away from, nano-fat is a cocktail of growth factors and regenerative cells.

“It’s safe enough for the delicate tear trough where standard fat can be finicky,” he explains. By stimulating collagen rather than just adding volume, it smooths out crepey skin for a rested glow that lasts. Best of all? You’re back to your routine in about a week, after the stitches are removed, looking like yourself, after maybe a very long, very restful retreat.

“If a cream could remove eyelid skin, surgeons would be out of business.”

An example of work by Dr. Allison Coombs

The Classic, but Conservative Upper East Side Blepharoplasty. The Doctor: Dr. Allison Coombs Who’s It For: Drooping upper eyelids, upper eye heaviness, hooded eyes, eyelid kkin interfering with makeup application

In the hands of Dr. Coombs, the director of Oculoplastic Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery at Northwell Health Eye Institute, the goal isn’t a transformation, it’s a restoration. Her most requested procedure? The upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Often performed under local anesthesia, the surgery meticulously sweeps away the excess skin and muscle that creates that heavy, hooded fatigue between the brow and lash line.

Performing up to thirty eyelid procedures a month, Dr. Coombs has mastered the ‘not done’ aesthetic. “Beautiful eyelid surgery shouldn’t look like surgery,” she tells me. “The goal is to look rested, brighter, and like yourself again.” And while the beauty aisles at Sephora are full of promises, Dr. Coombs offers a dose of surgical realism: “If a cream could remove eyelid skin, surgeons would be out of business.”

It’s a philosophy of surgical patience that resonates with patients from their 30s to their 60s. “In eyelid surgery, restraint is everything,” she explains. “The goal isn’t to change someone’s face, it’s to restore what time has gently taken away.”

“Lasers such as Aerolase or Laser Genesis are the “lunch break” favorites – well tolerated, zero downtime, and cumulative. They work behind the scenes to iron out skin quality while you go about your day.”

An example of work by Dr. Anetta Reszko

Lasers and Perfectly Placed Neuromodulators and Fillers. The Doctor: Dr. Anetta Reszko Who’s It For: Softening wrinkles and fine lines

For those seeking that “I don’t look done” look, Dr. Anetta Reszko’s Park Avenue office has become a haven for the scalpel shy. “I’ve seen an increase in patients asking about non-surgical eye rejuvenation,” reports Dr. Reszko. While the 45+ crowd is flocking in to tackle new onset crepiness, Dr. Reszko notes a surge in those in their late 30s who are playing the long game. “They’re interested in preventative treatments to maintain collagen and slow the visible aging process,” she explains.

Dr. Reszko plays it understated and precise. “For under-eye fine lines, carefully placed neuromodulators like Botox or Dysport can soften dynamic wrinkles,” she says. If you’re lacking structure, she might suggest a touch of hyaluronic acid filler to “cushion” the area. The goal? A subtle volume boost that restores the under-eye without the “puffy” giveaway.

More magic happens when she brings out the tech. “I often recommend gentle collagen-stimulating lasers such as Aerolase or Laser Genesis,” she says. These are the “lunch break” favorites – well tolerated, zero downtime, and cumulative. They work behind the scenes to iron out skin quality while you go about your day.

Maintenance doesn’t stop at the office door. If you’ve seen a sleek, futuristic device haunting your IG feed or topping “Best of Beauty” lists, it’s likely SKORR GLOW, the at-home powerhouse Dr. Reszko pioneered herself. “The device combines sonic vibration, radiofrequency, and micro-electroporation,” she explains. It’s a triple threat for the delicate eye area: the radio frequency wakes up sleepy collagen, while the electroporation ensures your pricey serums get where they need to go.

“It’s great for individuals with low-lying eyelids who are looking for a subtle, eye-opening lift. Some people use the drops everyday while others use the drops before parties, photoshoots, or appearances.”

Rested Gaze With Prescription Eye Drops. The Doctor: Dr. David Shafer, Shafer Clinic Fifth Avenue Who’s It For: Low-lying or droopy eyelids

Forget the double espresso, the new wakeup call comes in individually wrapped eye drops. If your eyelids need a bright-eyed quick fix, Dr. David Shafer of Shafer Clinic Fifth Avenue says, there’s a prescription eye drop solution called Upneeq. It’s like a push-up bra for the eyes. “It’s great for individuals with low-lying eyelids who are looking for a subtle, eye-opening lift. Some people use the drops everyday while others use the drops before parties, photoshoots, or appearances,” Dr. Shafer says.

Upneeq’s magic lies in targeting the Müller’s muscle, a tiny player in your lid that, when prompted, contracts to reveal more of the iris and whites. The result? Eyes that look instantly bigger and brighter. With face-focused treatments hitting a fever pitch in 2026, Upneeq has emerged as the ultimate low-maintenance hero, whether paired with plastic surgery or as a non-invasive quick fix.
