Avenue Insider Alexander Hankin reports on the city’s cool-girl fashionistas coming together… in style
Welcome to “Alexander in the Sky with Diamonds.” The Alice + Olivia x The Beatles capsule collection (please forgive all my Beatles references) in the Meatpacking District immediately made me think: “Jai guru deva” which is a Sanskrit phrase meaning “victory to the Guru.” And Bendet is certainly a style Guru with legions of loyal fashion followers.
I stroll west to Ninth Avenue with Paula Saunders, looking fabulous in all-black Mod-ish Alice + Olivia vegan leather. Inside is total Bendet Beatlemania. Think an Abbey Road photo op and a giant Yellow Submarine. Vending machines are stocked with prizes like a Porta cordless styler, Curlgo cordless curling irons and the Airhype hair dryer as well as the big prize: an Alice + Olivia Cody vegan leather jacket. A beauty bar from Tymo Beauty offers”Sgt. Pepper” makeovers. Nearby, I spot Mary J. Blige in a red Eleanor Rigby style number and oodles of bling. Nicky Hilton poses with Bendet who glimmers like Stacey…in the Sky with Diamonds. Kristin Chenoweth steals looks in a rainbow sequin dress from the collection that proclaims: “Come Together.” Side note: if you haven’t seen Chenowith and Ben Platt’s cover of “Till There Was You,” I recommend checking it out.
Other guests include: model Coco Rocha, Brooks Nader, Eden Golan, Minnie Mills, Alicia Crowder, Isan Elba, Gia Kim, Delaney Rowe, Ally Shapiro,, BB Jean, Grace Ann Nader, Mary Holland Nader, Clara McGregor, Sabrina Quesada, Lauren Frawley, Malina Weissman, Natalie Lim Suarez, Charity Lawson, Eboni Williams, Roma Abdesselam, Jordan Emanuel, Nadine Medvedchuk, Hannah Meloche, Megan Milan, Miranda McKeon, Robin Arzon, Victoria Brito, Katya Tolstova, Ella Mendelsohn, Latham Thomas, Vienna Skye, Amber Wang, Miranda McKeon, Alexa Swinton, Gabriela Ortega, Bruna Petrillo, Victoria Vesce, Dylana Suarez, Kaitlin Raegan, Yayis Villarreal, Adriana Callori, to name a handful.
Celebukid alert! Scout LaRue Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, takes the stage dressed in an elongated button-down with the iconic “Abbey Road” album cover. Willis channels the spirit of John, Paul, Ringo, and George throughout the set, crooning classic Beatles hit Rocky Racoon before singing her own tunes Over and Over and Take Me. Post-concert, everyone flocks to the pulsating LED dance floor with a giant green apple overhead – a nod to the Beatles’ Apple Corps, inspired by John Lennon’s love for the René Magritte’s painting, “Le Jeu de Mourre.”
