The Frick Autumn Dinner marks the return to the museum’s Fifth Avenue mansion since a multi-year renovation, the most comprehensive upgrade in ninety years. Starchitect Annabelle Selldorf restored the historic interiors, amplified accessibility and introduced new spaces for exhibitions. Naturally, Selldorf is the evening’s honoree and star.

Over drinks first in the garden court, I spot chief curator Aimee Ng, Axel Rüger and the fashion designer Bach Mai. Then dinner among masterpieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt and Turner, to name just a few. I dine in the Library Room which houses a multitude of Gainsborough paintings and a portrait of Henry Clay Frick himself.
